Thanks to Andre Drummond, NBA player, the Middlesex Y is able to offer qualifying teens a free 1 year YMCA membership. Space is limited, so apply soon!
For years, the Middlesex YMCA has been providing support and programs to meet the needs of the Middlesex Community. These programs exist at the Y because we desire to enrich the lives of those around us. However, many of these programs are either seasonal or not available to our children after the 6th grade.
In an effort to address the lack of programming in this age group, the Middlesex Y began the program Andre's Allstars (AA) with funding provided by Andre Drummond. Prior to his success in the NBA now with the Chicago Bulls, Andre was a kid finding respite in playing basketball at the Y. Andre seeks to provide that same safe environment for teens in Middletown. With the support of Andre Drummond and The Drummond Family Philanthropic Fund, the YMCA currently provides membership scholarships to those in need.
Andre’s All Stars at the Middlesex YMCA has dramatically impacted close to 500 teens since its inception. Qualifying teens receive full memberships to the Y, with access to the entire facility: gym, cardio & strength, swimming pools, and inclusion in the very popular Teen Nights. For parents and guardians, this program provides the opportunity for their teens to have positive role models in Y staff and members, a safe space to explore their potential, and some consistency in what can be a turbulent time for teens.
“We’re very grateful for the opportunity Andre has created for youth in this community. Since 2014-2015, our YMCA teens have benefited greatly from Andre’s support, and that of the National Basketball Players Association. When talking to Andre’s All-Stars members, they have expressed a genuine thank you to Andre for their membership. Most teens feel like access to the Y through this program gives teens a place to call their own after school and on the weekends. And while the financial contributions have been the tangible benefit, the intangible effect of teens succeeding and thriving cannot yet be measured as each student will find their value over the years to come,” says Michele Rulnick, President/CEO, Middlesex YMCA.
